Man: Yes ... Flowers and hope ... both wither with the passing of time ... - In Llewelyn's house - *Llewelyn ponders, standing by his bed* Llewelyn: I just don't know what I should say to her ... - In Millia's house - *Millia's parents stand together, facing Millia, who is by the bed* Millia's father: How many times must I say it? Millia's mother: Millia, think carefully about it ... Millia: Why? Why won't you understand?! ~~~~~~~~~~ SPIRIT CONCENTRATION *The sound of the wind through the trees, powerful* Llewelyn: Anything I say is only going to make her feel worse. *The sound of the wind through the trees again, lessening in loudness* Millia: No! *sob* Don't! I can't stand it! Stop it! Somebody stop it! *weeping* *The sound of the wind through the trees again, slight* Millia: I'll wait for you. I'll come, and think of this as our special place. Llewelyn: I won't die. I'll come back to you. ~~~~~~~~~~ RECRUITMENT *A group of priests and mourners in black gather in prayer around a flowerstrewn coffin, at the foot of Crell Monferaigne's mighty castle* Priest: Battle-Maiden. Please light our way, so that we may walk the path of courage! That spirit, it shall never be despoiled! *A flock of doves fly skyward, past the top of the castle's parapets. The scene darkens into a flashback in a forest, where Millia stands as though in wait. Llewelyn appears, and runs to her* Llewelyn: Sorry, Millia. Were you waiting long? Millia: It's okay. I love this place. *The leaves rustle as the wind whistles through the trees* Millia: I love to just stand here and listen to the rustling leaves. When the wind blows just right, it sounds just like waves lapping on a shore. *The two look up to the tops of the trees as the wind moves through the leaves again* Llewelyn: I never noticed it before. Now, I know what they mean by a "sea of trees". *Millia walks closer to Llewelyn* Millia: Yes. That's why I wanted you to come here. Llewelyn: Why? Millia: You're going to sea, aren't you? As a soldier... To war... Llewelyn: So you knew. Millia: Yes. That's why. My mother told me to forget you ... *Llewelyn looks down at his feet* Llewelyn: Maybe you should listen to her, Millia. Millia: Don't say that! I'm going to wait for you ... When I come here I feel like I'm closer to you. *Millia shakes her head* Millia: But not just that. It's more than that. I feel like you're really here. Here together with me ... Llewelyn: Millia ... *He embraces her* Llewelyn: I promise I won't die. Wait for me. Millia: I will. Llewelyn: When I come back, we'll get married. *The flashback fades* (Legends say that the lotus flower grants eternal life. When you give a lotus flower, it means you are praying for their eternal life.) *Millia can be seen sitting, alone* (How horrible. They said it was a war that we could not lose.) *The scene changes to Millia standing in the forest by herself* Millia: Llewelyn. I have to talk to you. My mother wants to arrange a marriage for me. I told her no, of course. All she cares about is her own social status, anyway. She's just wasting her time. I'll never marry anyone else ... *The wind rustles the leaves in the trees as well as Millia's hair and dress. She clutches her head* Millia: No! This noise... it's all wrong! *The sound of the wind grows louder and she falls on her knees* Millia: Stop! Somebody stop it...! *She bows her head* Millia: An empty coffin... I can't believe you're really dead... *The scene darkens to blackness. Valkyrie appears in a flicker of light and Llewelyn slowly fades into view opposite the goddess* Valkyrie: Are you certain about this? Llewelyn: What could I possibly say. There are no words ... Valkyrie: If you believe that we cannot do anything for you humans, then you are mistaken. Llewelyn: Huh? Valkyrie: The death of a loved one. For they that remain, the wounds grow deeper and deeper ... They that remain grow weaker and weaker, an agony incomparable, their hearts in bondage. Valkyrie: Can you not see it? She has ceased to live, frozen in time. It is the same as if you had slain her with one of your arrows. Llewelyn: So what should I ... *He takes a step towards Valkyrie, and bows his head* Valkyrie: There is no need to pretend. Simply do what you can. *The scene fades back to Millia in the forest. A ghostly Llewelyn runs to her. She stops and looks up, staring in disbelief. After a pause, she gets up and walks towards him* Millia: Llewelyn! *He embraces her* Llewelyn: Forgive me. I'll always be watching over you ... *The scene darkens to blackness. A sigh* Valkyrie: This is not my task ... I am no Goddess of Love ... ~~~~~~~~~~ REQUIEM - In Millia's house - *Millia's parents stand next to her, while she ponders silently over her bed* Millia's father: I knew it ... I knew this was going to happen. Millia's mother: Millia ... Millia: ... - In the forest - *Valkyrie wanders in and stops. Llewelyn steps out* Llewelyn: What's this ...? Valkyrie: It is a necklace. It is worn by women who pray for the safe return of their lovers ... [ You found the Goddess Pendant. ] __________ Goddess Pendant A pendant decorated with the Battle-Maiden's image.
